INDESCRIBABLE!
Have you ever seen the excitement on the face of a child who awakes on Christmas morning to find the toy he wanted so badly under the Christmas tree? The excitement and pleasure on MY face after producing my first e-book are almost indescribable. I produced a book! I start to see Newbury award Noble Prize for literature and any of the awards you can think of. Any way, let me get back down to earth and see if I can produce a next e-book. I may probably try one with more writing and features. I would probably put in a Contents page and put a little more writing on the pages. There's no way to stop me now. I am on the move.

Hi Heather
ReplyDeleteI understand the feeling!! I felt the same way about Microsoft Photo Story 3. I started to imagine all the different family movies I could make just from the pictures taken. Then I thought about having a movie archive with the different classes that I teach from year to year. I am really grateful for what we have learnt though, because it opens up so many possibilities to educate our students, while keeping in sync with this digital age.
A thought that has been bugging me though is: "Seeing that many of our students were born when the computer and other digital technology were already the norm, I wonder if it is them or us who must be in sync with the age?"
We as Reading Specialist really must update our "teaching technology."
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteThe feeling is definitely mutual! I am so excited about E books that I wasted no time in creating one for my 5 year-old son. What about Digital Storytelling-DOUBLE AWESOME!! I know we both had to miss the Friday Class but the follow-up class when we created Digital Story books using Photo Story 3 had me so excited that I've already organized for my principal who is overseas at this time to bring a digital camera for me.
The boundaries are limitless as to what we can achieve when we personalize learning like this. A really great article to read is Digital Storytelling: Extending the potential for Struggling Writers by Ruth Sylvester & Wendy-Lou Greenidge 'The Reading Teacher, 65(4),pp 284-295 DOI:10.1598/RT.63.4.3
The feeling of creating the e book was truly amazing and it was one of the exciting aspects of the course. I was thrilled be able to create some thing that I thought could only be done by technocrats in the computer field. Oh the computer is a wonderful creation for our time as educators! The potential for student learning is immense. We just have to use our imagination and be as creative as we can for our students' benefit.
ReplyDeleteMy family recently held our tenth family reunion and I saw the potential of using photostories and digital story telling to tell our family's story in some chronological order for the younger generations to come.
I understand the feeling, Heather. I actually did a blog after I completed my first ebook, to let out some of the elation. It is so easy to make, yet so very attractive and interesting. Imagine the possibilities in the classroom if us grownups can be so excited. Excitement equals motivation. Let's keep it going.
